Transportation to Astypalaia has been improved over the last few years since new built ships have been served the line from Piraeus. Also the new port in Agios Andreas has reduced the travel time a few hours.
Plane travel also evolved in the past years with daily at least flights to and from Athens International Airport.
How to get here
Visitors can travel to Astypalea by ferry or plane. There is a small airport on the island that receives flights from Athens and other islands all year around.
Astypalea daily receives only domestic flights from Athens and/or other islands such as Leros, Kalymnos, Kos & Rodos. The flight time from Athens to Astypalea is 50 min. The airport is located in the centre of the island, at the region of Analipsi (Maltezana) and about 10 km from Chora. There are ferries to Astypalea from Piraeus, the main port of Athens, 4-5 times per week. This ferry trip connects Astypalea with many other Greek islands, such as Paros, Naxos, Amorgos, Donoussa, Tilos, Rhodes and more.
